I went to my first con this weekend. It was quite a let down. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I went. But man, mechs gotta represent! There were only two girls that were cosplaying as characters from Gundam, and they both acted scared to death that I wanted my picture taken with them. It was basically a Bleach/Naruto/Death Note con. I haven’t really gotten into those. Probably due to the lack of giant robots. I saw a total of five real Gundam models, a few gashapons and a handful of DVDs, that’s pretty much it. I did happen to buy the awesome Super Robot Taisen soundtrack, Robonation 1. Now that is some good stuff. I saw a few Gundam Fix Figurations, and a trio of Zeonography models, too, but I had to stay on a pretty strict budget.
On a high note, I was able to meet Vic Mignogna. He is mostly known as Ed Elric from Full Metal Alchemist. I’m actually not familiar with the series, but I have a feeling I will be. I’ll just say that Ed’s brother, Alfonse, is a robot! After a pretty hectic Saturday, he led a nice Sunday Service in the hotel the next morning. I’m excited to meet Christians in the anime industry scene. So that was pretty cool. He shared his testimony, and answered a few questions. He kept it very accessible, and was a joy to listen to.
In a quasi-related event, Hide had a little gift for my friend Todd and I as we chatted in the wee hours before we left on our journey. We had helped Hide move out of his apartment, because, well, that’s what frie
nds do. He bought us dinner that night, and we thought we were even. Well, we must not have been. Hide brought a few gifts from his recent trip back to Japan. His family sent us a little care package. In this little package were a few Gundam Wing SD keychains, a RX-78 Toy, and, get this, a friggin’ J-Spec Nintendo DS!! Todd’s DS was “Enamel Navy,” and mine was “Ice Blue.” Quite beautiful machines, really. I haven’t had any game time
with a DS, but the two DS’s that we received had a colored base, and then a thick crystal-clear polycarbonate coating on top of that. A visual feast for the eyes. Todd’s was nice, but mine is rather reminiscent of the Gouf Custom… ^_^ I had been wanting a DS or GBA for quite some time. The reason? Super Robot Taisen! I’ll have to post more about that game later. However, I will say it most certainly rules! I told Hide to let his brother know that the very first game I bought for the DS was Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation 2. Hide’s reply was “He knew that would be when he bought it for you!” So, long story short, I haven’t gotten anything done since we got back from the con, except passed a few levels on SRW!
I’ll get some pics up later. I’m at work, and I have to go out of town when I get off. This evening I’ll try to add a few photos.

Giant robots definitely didn’t represent. Then again I’m not for sure a Gouf could make it though the doors.

The Gouf would have made short work of all the Naruto/Bleach cosplayers there. Another nice thing about Mechs, no perspiration. Ewww…..
